Narjis Pierre was born in Australia but grew up, went to school, and completed a diploma in special needs pedagogy in Basel, Switzerland, where three of her brothers still live with their families. In 1984, at the age of 27 she traveled solo to Lima, Peru and spent 1/2year trekking north through Peru, Ecuador, the south of Colombia, San Andrès island in the Caribbean, Guatemala, and finally a long train ride through all of Mexico to the Rio Grande Laredo border of Texas. Without any planning, in the Texas Hill country, at the very end of Twin Sisters Lane off of Highway 473, she stumbled into the American Institute of Qur’anic Studies and on the spot decided to stop her physical traveling. Out of curiosity she became a practicing Muslim, learning about inward journeying, self-knowledge, and Sufism. She has loved her faith and continues the very rich and expansive study of Islam, its history, and the Muslim world.
As a consequence of the 9/11 attacks, Narjis was asked to be a ‘teacher’ about Islam to the community of San Antonio.
In 2006 Narjis was able to complete her ‘ Hajj’ (pilgrimage) to Makkah and Madina in Saudi Arabia. In 2008 she traveled to Pretoria, South Africa for a Sufi Conference with her Shaykh, Fadhlalla-Haeri https://shaykhfadhlallahaeri.com.
Narjis stayed married to Ishaq Pierre (d.2021) and raised/homeschooled her three children. She worked for 20 years as a ‘end-of-life’ caregiver until she ‘retired’ in 2022.
She continues her love for discovery of deep wisdom and the amazing beauty of all life in this world.
